Born and raised in San Diego, California, Cole has always had a love for the outdoors. Some of his earliest memories are those being pushed into waves, and spending all day at the beach.
Growing up so close to Mexico, many of his weekends were spent adventuring in new communities and searching for new waves with his best friends. Cole also started team sports like baseball and soccer at a very young age, growing his appreciation for community.
During high school, Cole took part in a leadership group called the Aaron Price Fellows program, inspiring young individuals to promote positive change in their local communities. It was through his love of sports, time spent working in community leadership, and his determination to make a difference that Mi Sueño Foundation was born. Cole now is studying Finance and Entrepreneurship, with a minor in Spanish language at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
Luis was born and raised in the lowest region of Southern Baja, specifically in San José del Cabo. He developed a passion for the art of surfing, and at 12 years old his parents were able to afford his first surfboard.
He then spent his summer days practicing to the point of competing, where he won his first competition at age 14. At age 15, Luis won Costa Azul’s under-16 division title, qualifying him for the Surfing National Games. Through this achievement, Luis was allowed to travel and meet different states on the coast of Mexico.
During his travels, he secured sponsorships that helped him pursue his passion. Luis then secured a position as an active competitor with the Cabo Junior Surf Team and prepared for a competition in Puerto Escondido. While searching the coastline for optimal waves to train in Luis met the Maddens.
They very quickly became friends and spent time surfing together. This began the Mi Sueño Foundations journey as Cole and Luis discussed the positive impact of sports on their lives, and how every child should get the same opportunity. They noticed locally that many children would be interested in surfing if given the resources. Luis and Cole then launched their first project, successfully supplying surfing equipment to local youth.
Luis continues his efforts for Mi Sueño Foundation, as a Community Outreach Coordinator. Luis is also a surfing instructor in his hometown and is looking forward to being a certified lifeguard for the beaches of Cabo to ensure his communities safety.
Areck Madden spent his youth playing sports, fishing and dreaming of new places to explore.
In the early 80’s his parents Dennis and Kareen Madden introduced him to the Los Cabos region of Baja Sur, Mexico. These family fishing trips were spent in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez catching game fish, and in the small fishing village of Cabo San Lucas learning to speak Spanish and making friends.
His educational path took him to San Diego which allowed him to explore the surf breaks and warm people of Northern Baja.
Over the past 40 years, Areck’s love of Baja has grown beyond the dirt road soccer games of his youth. His passion for the people of Baja has inspired him to assist his son Cole, daughter Quinn and friend Luis in developing the Mi Sueño Foundation.
Areck acts as an advisor to the Mi Sueño Foundation team, and an ambassador to the people of Baja Mexico.
